After a fairly busy weekend, a little Sunday afternoon relaxation in the garden was called for. I had hoped to complete the first of may latest pair of 'Roger Socks', but a good book interrupted my good intentions.
The Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction shortlist has recently been announced and there were three of my favourite authors included: Ali Smith, Anne Tyler and Sarah Waters. However, the one that really caught my eye was 'The Bees' by Laline Paull. It's her first novel and so far (Chapter 3), I'm hooked!
The story is set in a beehive and explores the terrifying hierarchical structure of the beehive colony. It's the story of Flora who, despite being born into the lowest echelon of bee society, manages to change her destiny and her world, in the face of an increasingly desperate struggle for survival.
So lovely to sit in the warm sunshine, at last!

Gorgeous flowers in your garden. I like the sound of that book too. Have a great week!
Our neighbour keeps bees. We are inundated by them They leave yellow deposits on our windows. our cars and my washing. They come into our house when the doors are open.Last year they swarmed all over our poor dog. Luckily she wasn't stung but she was traumatised. I'm afraid to say I'm sick and tired of bees.
