SOCK LOVE....

Yep, that's right, I'm missing the old socks like mad at the moment. As you can see, I'm not in great need of any more pairs, although I guess I have yarn enough to keep me and my loved ones in socks for life. However, there is something very therapeutic and pleasurable about a finished pair of socks, all ready to go into action on one's feet. Socks seem to have a natural ability to make me smile. They are such happy, vivacious and colourful little beings. How can I have been away so long! It seems that way too many other knitterly interests and projects have overtaken my deep-seated sock love and withdrawal symptoms are beginning to set in.

Above are all the socks I have knitted to date, in order of completion from the very first pair at bottom right, to the most recent pair top left. I'm pleased to notice great improvement, bot in my sock knitting skills and in my photo shooting. I can spot the ladders in my first two pairs , as I struggled to keep the tension between needle shifts. It was a revelation to discover knitting the first stitch on the next needle each time, instantly solved the problem!

Recently I have explored solid and semi-solids a little more and have managed to seek out and stash  some stunning yarns. Oh that there were more hours in each day and that money grew on a tree in the garden.
But no, that's merely a silly fantasy.

So, unless my withdrawal symptoms become unbearable, I look forward to casting on a pair just as soon as Sophie's little hoodie is complete. I think I shall make Anne Hanson's 'Almondine'.  Oh the pleasure!

As you can see, the hoodie is on its way. The sholder have been matress stitched together and I'm knitting the hood. Then all that's left is to make the borders, sew up the seams, set in the sleeves and add a couple of little buttons. I think that get done this week with a little bit of luck.

I picked up a couple of skeins of Posh Yarn 'Sylvia' 2ply last Sunday, in the mad 7p.m. shop madness that takes place over at the Posh Yarn store. Sylvia is a delicious blend of 50% merino and 50% silk; just perfect for shawl making.

The top skein is in colourway 'Go Platinum' and is destined to become a shawl or stole for me, to wear during the evening of my daughter's wedding next April. Its abeautiful mix of mauve and silvery grey. The bottom skein is for my daughter's shawl for her wedding and is in colourway, 'Cooing Doves' (quite appropriate I thought).  Flowers will be in mauves and blues, so these these beautiful colourways seemed just perfect. MInd you, it could all be a pipedream, as once again I have to remind myself that there are only twenty-four hours in a day. At least there's a plan!

Thanks for calling in and have a good week, wherever you are!

My goodness ... so many socks! So many colours!
I was in a craft shop yesterday, and was actually drawn towards feeling some yarn. The one I liked best was the most expensive by far. It's a good job I have no inclination to knit or I would be bankrupt! I spend enough on paper stash!
Have a good week. Hope Christmas isn't getting too mad!

What lovely socks! I haven't knit any socks in a while, and I'm feeling the need too, but there are so many other tempting patterns!

The Posh Yarn is gorgeous, I have some which I plan to make a scarf with.

Hi Ros! Best timing for this wonderful post! Your socks are just amazing and so beautiful! I tried to choose my favourite, but couldn't. I'm knitting now again socks, but because we don't need them much here, I don't get so much practise and I have the problem when changing the needle. Sorry but I couldn't understand how you resolved that problem.
Sofie's pullover is going to be wonderful!
Have a lovely week and give hugs to Oscar!

WOW...this sock-extravaganza rocks, Ros! So many beauties... I'm just in awe... I keep scrolling up & down to look at 'em all! I really have to get this socking knitting down, because I KNOW I'm missing something. ;o) The hoodies is shaping up lovely--very impressive, and fun colors with the stripes. Those soft, lavender skeins of yarn...be still my heart...*sigh*....Thanks so much for you visit to my place. I'm behind seeing everyone--so much on the plate just now, and preparing for Christmas trip Stateside--can't wait! Happy Days, Ros ((HUGS))

Just amazing! I can see the progress you made from your first pair of socks to your latest pair. The pictures are also much better! I just started knitting a pair of knee high socks and might fall in love with knitting socks again.

Wow, I love your sock collection! I've not made any for ages and am getting withdrawal problems about it. As you say - if only there were more hours in a day! Love your laceweight, I wonder which patterns you'll pick..

Your socks are jussssttt lovely and the pics too. I love sock knitting too. I've knitted 5 pairs and given away 2 of them and don't really need any more. I made one pair from the left over wool bits and was wearing them when I was in a shoe shop trying on boots. Everyone thought them fab and I had to parade around the shop to show them off to everyone!!! Well done!!
