BEAUTIFUL PROVENCE.....

Hello! The traveller has returned. It;s been a really busy but very lovely summer this year, topped off by a fantastic week in Provence with my youngest daughter. The sun shone brightly, showering us with it's glorious warmth. Some days the temperature reached over 40 degrees and was never less than 33 for the largest part of the day. We didn't see a single cloud or even have to think about glancing at the weather forecast, before deciding on the day's activities. The food and wine was excellent and the company was just perfect! We had the best time!

Having never been to this area of France before, I was constantly in awe of it's stunning beauty. It seemed that around every corner turned was yet another pretty village,  beautiful building or area of outstanding natural beauty. I have never seen anywhere so beautiful!

We initially stayed in Aix-en-Provence, from where we explored the hill towns and villages of the Verdon, as well as the wonderful Parc Naturel Regional du Verdon; each one as different as it was pretty. Everywhere was so clean and well kept and everyone so friendly. Wow factor times a hundred!

We moved on to stay in St-Rémy-de-Provence, from where we visited Avignon (yes, we sang the song on the bridge!) and discovered the delights of the Luberon, with more delightful villages along with water wheels, canals, ancient abbeys, Roman ruins and of course fields upon fields of lavender, olive groves, vineyards and orchards. Just stunning!

We wasted no time and made the most of the local menus and wine lists. We had a ball and loved it all! Adieu Provence jusqu'à la prochaine fois!

These photos are so beautiful it makes my heart hurt. What a wonderful holiday!
I've never been to France, but it seems like Southern California in terrain and climate (minus our drought) but also without the history of Roman ruins and ancient abbeys. Thanks for sharing. It's amazing!

Wonder area. Glad you enjoyed you holiday though those temperatures would be too hot for enjoyment for me. We had two weeks based in St Remy last year and loved every minute too !

Well, our paths nearly crossed. I'm sitting in St Remy de Provence reading your post. It's still hot, but very windy today. We've been on the trail of Vincent van Gogh today, and we're off to Arles tomorrow.

I love the Verdon. We walked the gorge a few years ago .... it's a very long walk but the scenery is fantastic.
